A Day at the Zoo

Yesterday Bobby and I picked up Luke & Kayla for a day at the Indianapolis Zoo. We went via the Indianapolis Airport and picked up grandpa first. We looked forward to a fun day together looking at the animals. I can tell you that seeing the zoo with a 2 & 4 year old is much different than just having Bobby along. You see each exhibit much more quickly. They see that particular animal, and then want to go off to the next one. Certain ones caught their interest, such as the giraffes, zebras, and particularly the sharks. There was a place where you could see and even touch the sharks. (It was inside out of the rain, yeah!) We had to go there twice. Luke tried his hardest to touch one. They just were too far away for his little arm to reach. Part way through the aftenoon we went to the elephant show. We didn't let the drizzling rain stop us. We were determined to have a great time, and we did. We were getting a bit wet, and then I remembered that we had Bobby's 'Spiderman' blanket with us. So grandpa took one end, and grandma had the other one. I wish you could have seen it, but sorry, grandpa accidentally deleted all the pictures. He was trying to get more room on the memory card, and instead of deleting some pictures; they all disappeared. Oh well, the memory will be in our minds as long as we have one!!

Later in the afternoon we enjoyed the dolphin show. It was magnificent except they kept talking about recycling and using those florescent light bulbs. We enjoyed the show in spite of it. After all, we were so glad to be inside out of the rain. The kids were all glued to the dolphins. Luke loved it when the people got wet!! I asked him if he wanted to sit there the next time, and he said an emphatic 'no.'

After observing the sleeping koalas (members only that day), we decided that we had enough rain. And it was 5 o'clock, and two little ones had missed their naps. But they didn't complain about that while they ran from animal to animal. They were so great, and they had such a wonderful time (so did grandpa & grandma!). But they were asleep before we left the parking lot!!

I have to say that it was fun being with grandpa for our first visit with the kids to the zoo. I don't know what was more fun -- being with Bobby and two of our grandkids or watching grandpa watch them have such fun.

We ended our day at Burger King before taking the kids back home to their folks and Nana. We were so thrilled that Nana shared the grandkids withs us during her visit. We are sure that she had a special time with just Krista. Thanks Nana!! Enjoy the remainder of your visit.
